Anyone who gets serious about owning a gun realizes the next step is getting accessories for them.

Even if you only own a single gun, you may find one or more of these accessories actually could be more of a necessity. The important part is becoming familiar with the options that are available and finding what may work for you.

Some of your needs depend on whether you need a proper way to store or carry your gun. Keep in mind in order to legally carry your gun you will need to abide by the laws and guidelines of your state.

It is always better to be aware of your state laws when it comes to firearms in order to avoid legal issues. From there you can make the best choices when it comes to accessories for your gun.

At Ozark Mountain Leather, we specialize in custom gun holsters.

 Gun holsters are an appropriate way to carry a concealed weapon for those who use this as part of their profession or have a permit to carry. Many people also use a holster to carry their gun for sport or recreational purposes and still be able to keep their hands relatively free.

The first thing to realize is that there are several different types of gun holsters depending on where you would like to carry your firearm and what is most comfortable for you.

Generally aside from safety, you are looking for comfort as well as ease of access to your gun when deciding on a gun holster. The most common types of gun holsters include:

1. Inside the Waistband
2. Outside the Waistband
3. Pocket Holsters 

Inside the waistband and outside the waistband.  Generally these clip on or attach through a loop unless you are using the type that can be covered by an shirt.  Pocket holsters have increased in popularity lately.  These are appropriate for smaller firearms and are ideal for coat pockets and pants.

What Makes A Good Holster

1.  It must keep the weapon secured for the activity the person will be engaged in. 

2.  The weapon must be accessible in an swift manner.  If you can not bring the weapon into action quickly, it may cost you dearly.  The holster must also not interfere with getting a secure firing grip on the weapon from the draw, and any retention device must be able to be removed when getting a firing grip.

3.  It must be comfortable.  An uncomfortable holster will not be used, and therefore the weapon will not be with you when you need it.

4.  Just my opinion but I think a holster should look good, but looking good has nothing to do with the function.  Several holsters on the market look good, but don't cut it on the previous three points.  Mine will meet the top three criteria... and look good while doing it.

Ordering a custom holster

Proper fit of one’s handgun holster is important.  Of course, most important is that the holster fit the handgun.  There is not a standardized size numbering system, so it is important that the holster you buy is manufactured for your particular hand gun make and model.  That is one reason is it is best to buy a custom made holster.

The holster must fit your purpose.  For example, if you want to carry concealed, you need a concealed carry holster.  This can vary from deep carry, i.e. carrying completely concealed, to casual concealment.  Other purposes would include sport shooting, occupational carry, or tactical carry.

The holster must be comfortable for you to wear.  If it is uncomfortable, you’re not going to wear it.  Where you want to carry your weapon is a major factor in comfort as well, whether it is on your belt or inside your waistband. Fit Counts!

Welcome to Ozark Mountain Leather, here you will find top quality holsters and other hand made leather items.  Everything I make is made from top quality vegetable tanned leather from the USA.  I use professional grade dyes and finishes to ensure a quality product.  The finished product is a holster that is not only comfortable to wear but secure.  It is something you can be proud of.  Just because it is concealed doesn't mean it shouldn't look good.
